The aim of the Animal By Products Section is to regulate and control compliance with Council Regulation 1774/2002.
During 2008 several visits were carried out in the thermal facility of Malta where also ABP are disposed; together with personnel from the thermal facility a number of SOP were discussed and issued, in particular for the acceptance of carcasses from the Civil Abattoir and from farmers.
The Gozo Thermal facility located at the not functioning abattoir was given temporary approval. The Section taking care of ABP collected 3467 kg of SRM from butcher shops handling vertebral columns. The same section also collected 40.65 tons of catering international waste.
